Abstract

We discuss a new method for studying the electron — confined LO phonon interaction in quantum wells through cyclotron resonance spectroscopy. We have made calculations of the cyclotron resonance in the presence of electron-phonon interactions using the memory function approach. We find that sharp resonances occur at frequencies corresponding to the cyclotron frequency plus the phonon frequencies and that the widths and shifts of these resonances due to electron-phonon scattering are small. The strengths of these resonances then give a measure of the corresponding electron-phonon interaction.
