Abstract
To improve the treatment of patients with diabetes, the Phoenix Veterans Affairs (VA) Health Care System initiated a high-intensity diabetes management clinic in 2009. During one-on-one, 75-minute visits, patients met with a nurse, nutritionist, pharmacist, psychologist, and nurse practitioner or endocrinologist. Each patient received four visits separated by a month before returning to traditional treatment.
