Abstract

A Sense of Wonder – Before we discuss knowledge of more sophisticated languages, however, I would like to have a look at a rather peculiar and highly intriguing problem concerning the awfully pedestrian knowledge of meaning we considered up to now. Its discussion will provide us with the other of the two methods we will need in due course. We run into this problem, as we start to use the rules to govern ascription of semantic knowledge proposed in the last chapter. Two reactions you are likely to experience in the process of using them set the stage.
