Abstract
The single craze which appears at the crack tip in some amorphous polymers has been observed between — 100 and + 100° C in five different polymers. The results show that the single craze exists only between two temperatures: a certain critical temperatureTc and the glass transition temperature. In the case of oriented block co-polymers the structure also affects the formation of the craze. Below the critical temperatureTc, a multiple craze appears ahead of the crack and the fracture toughnessKc increases.
