Abstract

The phytochemical investigation of the stems of Fissistigma retusum (H.Lév.) Rehder led to the isolation of a new phenolic derivative methyl 3-hydroxy-2,4- dimethoxybenzoate (1), together with three known phenolic derivatives (2–4) and five know sesquiterpene derivatives (5–9), 2,3,4-trihydroxybenzoic acid (2), isovanillic acid (3), 3,4-dihydroxybenzoic acid (4), (+)-dehydrololiolide (5), (E)-4-(r-1′,t-2′,c-4′-trihydroxy-2′,6′,6-′trimethylcyclohexyl)but-3-en-2-one (6), (+)-boscialin (7), 8′-oxodihydrophaseic acid (8), and dihydrophaseic acid (9). Structure elucidations of these compounds were performed on the basis of NMR spectral data and MS. All compounds were isolated from the F. retusum for the first time. The chemotaxonomic significance of the isolates was also discussed.
