Abstract

Abstract The hexagonal perovskite RbMnCl3 is known to exhibit an antiferromagnetic ordering below TN ≂ 90 K, and indication of a structural transition at T1 ≂ 272 K has been reported. We here present results from Raman scattering studies on the material in the temperature range 50 K-310 K. Symmetry assignment of the Raman lines are given. No specific magnon line has been identified. Neither is any line anomaly seen around 272 K. A strange behaviour of the background intensity about 270 K led to an investigation of the fluorescence spectrum, which is also presented.
