Abstract
The two-dimensional phase transition between different J-aggregate states in the amphiphilic merocyanine dye monolayer was investigated using a multi-purpose nonlinear optical microscope. Precise in-situ observations of the transition on cooling revealed the nucleation and growth process of the low temperature phase in the matrix of high temperature phase.
