Abstract

Published results for the location and nature of phase transformations for alloys in the system GeSe-GeTe are not in agreement. High temperature X-ray diffraction and differential scanning calorimetry measurements now reported show two phase transformations. A rhombohedral-cubic transformation occurs at 370 ± 10° C in alloys based on the GeTe structure and with composition in the range 0–55 mol% GeSe. A ternary single phase region is formed by a peritectoid transformation at 450 ± 10° C in alloys with composition in the range 65–84 mol% GeSe. The temperature and composition dependence of lattice parameters have been determined for these alloys.
