Abstract

1. The magnitude of the γ→α transformation is greater in austenitic manganese cast iron with spheroidal graphite than in cast iron of the same composition with graphite flakes. 2. During friction with a lubricant containing an abrasive the phase transformation was found only in cast iron in the as-cast state. No phase transformation was found in annealed cast iron. 3. During friction without a lubricant and with a lubricant containing an abrasive the quenched steel roller was worn less in contact with the cast iron in which the phase transformation occurred.
