Abstract

Several kinds of heat-treatments were applied to a low thermal expansion austenitic flake graphite and spheroidal graphite cast irons. The effects of heat treatment on the average coefficient of linear thermal expansion of cast irons in the temperature range from 323K to 773K were studied and their mechanical properties were measured at room temperature. A recommended heat treatment condition for the cast irons which possess both low thermal expansion characteristics and high tensile strength is solution treatment at temperatures higher than 1273K.
