Abstract

A digital signal processing-type improved phase synchronizer using the method of least squares (IPS-MLS), which is free from memory overflow, is proposed. The overflow problem of the conventional PS-MLS is investigated and the construction and behavior of the IPS-MLS is explained. The performance of the proposed IPS-MLS is similar to the conventional PS-MLS using infinite memory; only two steps are required for the acquisition (in a noiseless case), the condition to accomplish synchronization is very wide, and the noise suppression performance is greatly improved compared with the conventional phase-locked loop. >
