Abstract

A digital signal processing (DSP) phase synchronizer using the method of least squares for fading channels (PS-FC) is presented. The proposed PS-FC has many characteristics which are quite different from conventional phase-locked loops (PLLs). For example, it can suppress noise using a modified method of least squares instead of a loop filter. The PS-FC can satisfy the phase tracking performance and the noise suppression performance simultaneously, which cannot be done by conventional PLLs. The pull-in range of the PS-FC is about three times as wide as that of the conventional PLL. It can estimate phase fluctuations due to fading much more accurately because of the modified method of least squares. Computer simulation shows its superior performance. >
