Abstract

The phenomenon of fluorescence emission offers a variety of parameters that can be exploited to achieve highly selective chemical analysis.1 Only a small fraction of chemical species are fluorescent, providing inherent selectivity. Limited applicability, a drawback of the selectivity, can often be overcome by using derivatization or indirect methods based on effects such as quenching, complexation, enzymatic catalysis, and immunochemical equilibria
