Abstract

The solidification laws of hypoeutectic alloys Fe-B during rapid cooling are studied. The solidification mechanisms of heterogeneous and homogeneous nucleation and the following crystal growth are considered depending on the cooling rate of a melt layer and the conditions before the solidification front. The nucleation conditions for different types of borides and α and γ-Fe are studied. The relation between the type and morphology of the forming crystalline phases and the temperature-concentration conditions of their nucleation and growth is shown.
