Abstract

A new continuous-thermodynamics method based on spline fit is presented. The method can be used for any arbitrary distribution of components for complex mixtures. The conversion of the compositions of various equilibrium phases can be performed by simple algebra. Therefore, the computation accuracy and efficiency for bubble point, dew point and flash calculations are notably improved. Tests by phase equilibrium calculations for a series of simulated and real systems indicate that this method is efficient and reliable, and can be applied in chemical process design.
