Abstract

The phase diagrams of a random-bond mixed spin Ising system consisting of spin- 1 2 and spin-1 with a transverse field are investigated within the framework of an effective-field approximation. Our phase diagram of zero transverse field is completely equivalent to that based on the finite cluster approximation. We find that the effects of a transverse field on the phase diagram exhibit a number of interesting phenomena. In particular, the bond-diluted mixed spin Ising model with a transverse field may be a desirable system to verify the discontinuity of the critical transverse field at the percolation concentration.
