Abstract

Effects of BaTiO3 addition on phase development and dielectric characteristics of Pb(Mg1/3Ta2/3)O3-PbTiO3 ceramics were investigated. Variation of crystal symmetry with compositional change was also studied. In the B-site precursor system, trirutile and rutile (with trace amounts of anatase) structures were detected depending on compositions. After the addition of PbO and BaCO3, by contrast, only a single structure of perovskite developed in the entire composition range. Maximum dielectric constant values, together with dielectric maximum temperatures, increased gradually with increasing Ti fractions. An unusual behavior of dual maxima in the dielectric constant and loss spectra was observed at an intermediate composition.
