Abstract

The free energy of formation and the free energy change of the phase transformation of LaCoO 3 was obtained by the application of solid electrolyte galvanic cell, Pt Ni , NiO/C. S. Z./CoO, La 2O 3, LaCoO 3 Pt . between 1100–1325 K. A distinct break was observed in the e. m. f. vs. temperature plot at 1212 ± 2 K, which was attributed to the endothermic phase transformation in LaCoO 3 with ΔH o tr = 3650 cal. mole −1.
