Unequivocal esophageal varices were demonstrated in 9 of the 17 patients. When the diagnosis of esophageal varices is in doubt on conventional radiologic studies or when strong clinical evidence of varices is not accompanied by radiologic evidence, Pro-Banthine-enhanced esophagrams should be obtained. Pro-Banthine is contraindicated in glaucoma and should be used with caution in patients with cardiac disease or prostatic hypertrophy.Article HistoryAccepted: Aug 1971Published in print: Feb 1972 FiguresReferencesRelatedDetailsCited ByEsophageal Varices: Evaluation with Esophagography with Barium versus Endoscopic Gastroduodenoscopy in Patients with Compensated Cirrhosis—Blinded Prospective Study1Evgeny Farber, , Doron Fischer, , Rami Eliakim, , Nira Beck-Razi, , Ahuva Engel, , Ella Veitsman, , Irit Chermesh, , Kamel Yassin, , Diana Gaitini, , Michael Libes, , Shai Linn, , Soboh Soboh, , and Yaacov Baruch, 1 November 2005 | Radiology, Vol. 237, No. 2Oesophageal varices: how reliable is a barium swallow?A ZGinai, H RVan Buuren, W C JHop, S WSchalm1993 | The British Journal of Radiology, Vol. 66, No. 784David J.
