India is the great heritage of medicinal herb and aromatic plants. Mesua ferrea is a well known plant for its medicinal property in Ayurveda and other traditional system of medicine. It possess multifactorial pharmacological effect because of its rich source of secondary metabolites. According to phytochemical studies, M. ferrea is a good source of polyphenolic, flavonoids contents that gives significant antioxidant property. The aim of this research work was to perform detailed pharmacognostic study like micsoscopy, physicochemical parameters, preliminary phytochemical screening, and determination total phenolic content as well as antioxidant activity of alcoholic, hydro alcoholic and water extracts of M. ferrea. Preliminary phytochemical study showed the presence of sterols only in alcoholic extract, and flavonoids, phenols, coumarins, and saponins, glycosieds in both alcoholic and water extract. Hydroalcoholic extract contain highest total phenolic content, and showed antioxidant activity to the greater extent than the alcoholic and water extract. In vitro study revealed the remarkable antioxidant effect and highest phenolic content in hydroalcoholic extract.
