Abstract

Introduction: The National Humanization Policy (NHP) advocates user embracement as a tool to improve bonding and solve health demands. In this perspective, this study aims to report the activities developed by the Education Program for Health Care (PET-Health), axis of Continuing Education (PET-CE) of Federal University of Paraiba (UFPB), which contributed to humanization and user embracement in the Integrated Health Unit of Cruz das Armas in the city of Joao Pessoa, PB. Reporting experience: The PET-CE group was present in the health unit observing its daily service and following the activities developed by staff for four hours per week, from August 2012 to January 2014. Over this period, several actions were held together with the health team with the purpose of improving ‘user embracement’ as well as of verifying professionals’ satisfaction with the working process. All experiences were recorded in field notebooks to further guide group discussions. Results and Discussion: Based on the developed activities, we observed that the health team seems eager to achieve better results as for assistance; however, there may be difficulties concerning the debate on the working process, transference of information and changes in daily practice. Conclusion: The insertion of PET-CE in the working process of the health team has served as a tool for reflection and engagement of the professionals involved. DESCRIPTORS User Embracement. Primary Health Care. Education, Continuing.
