Abstract
Two petrol fires in closed rooms are reported. The fires were rapid, intense, short-lived and self-extinguishing. The reconstruction of the first is based on the scene examination later confirmed by admissions of the alleged perpetrator. The second fire which was prepared during a training course for Police arson investigators (Auckland, July, 1968) was an attempt to duplicate the main features of the first.
