Abstract

AbstractInsect pests Thrips tabaci and Delia antiqua are the major biotic constraints in onion and garlic production. The lepidopteran pests include the gram pod borer Helicoverpa armigera, tobacco caterpillar Spodoptera litura and Spodoptera exigua. Cutworms Agrotis ipsilon, A. segetum, Xestia C-nigrum and Peridroma saucia also inflict damage and cause significant yield losses. The other insect pests include earwig Anisolabis stali, Chrysodeixis chalcites and Atractomorpha crenulata. Non-insect pests including the bulb mite Rhizoglyphus robini, eriophyid mite Aceria tulipae and the red spider mite Tetranychus cinnabarinus also inflict damage causing significant yield losses. Management of major pests of onion and garlic is also discussed.
