Abstract

A pertubation theoretical approach to light diffraction at thick magnetic phase gratings, also including a z-dependence of the phase function, allows to calculate the angular dependence of the diffraction efficiency, which under Bragg conditions reproduces the result of our previously developed multiwave theory. Comparison with experimental data on ferromagnetic stripe domain gratings in K 2CuF 4 shows that agreement can only be achieved under the assumption of a fairly broad distribution of different domain widths including slight slanting.
