Abstract

The “See It Now” broadcast in which Edward R. Murrow and Fred W. Friendly directly assailed Senator Joseph R. McCarthy is often cited as a prominent example of the questionable use of materials as instruments of impartial journalistic reporting. The available evidence concerning the “Report on Senator Joseph R. McCarthy” is examined and evaluated in light of the format and function of the broadcast.
