Abstract
Drop Foot (DF) and Foot Drop are interchangeable terms that describe an abnormal neuromuscular disorder that affects the patient's ability to raise their foot at the ankle. Ankle-foot orthoses (AFOs) are devices intended to assist or to restore the motions of the ankle–foot complex. This chapter outlines the development of personalized AFO, which is based on 3D models of the patient's ankle-foot complex. Personalized design is an optimal solution to meet technical, clinical, and cosmetic requirements in AFO development; it allows obtaining complete fitting to patient anatomy and optimization in the design and material selection. Methods of reconstructing 3D models of the ankle-foot based on Reverse Engineering (RE) are investigated from which the new personalized AFOs are proposed. These AFOs are designed to assist the ankle flexion-extension for DF patients.
