Abstract
Tobacco smoking (TS) has an incredibly large effect on the development of abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAA) even when TS is stopped long before the appearance of the clinical disease. Prior studies in the elastase perfused (EP) mouse model have shown increased AAA size with 2 weeks of TS prior to EP with TS continued an additional 2 weeks until harvest. We evaluated whether remote exposure to TS might also influence AAA in this mouse model. Methods: Male C57/Bl6 mice were exposed to smoke from 3 cigarettes/day, 6 days/week for 2 (n=4), 4 (n=6) or 6 weeks (n=6) prior to EP only.
