Abstract

The capacity of the residential college on campus is not able accommodate the total number of students; thus, students are required to find housing to rent off campus. A briefing on house rental for Non-Resident (NR) students of UiTM Perak Branch was held to expose the students to the basic concepts of contract law, the responsibilities of tenants and landlord and the effects of breach of terms in the rental agreement. The briefing which was conducted through an online mode using the google meet and webex platform for two hours has received a positive response from the students. The objective of this study is to refine and discuss the perception of Non-Resident (NR) students of UiTM Perak Branch, towards residential rental, i.e. a room or house for rent. This study employs qualitative methods through library and descriptive research. Information and data for this study were obtained through Google Forms following a briefing given online. The results of this study found that students better understand their rights as tenants; rental agreement and legal effects after the briefing has been delivered. In addition, the findings of the study also found that briefings regarding the rental of off-campus residences have been suggested to be implemented in the future as a reminder and enlightenment for the students.
