Abstract

The Perry Barr and Witton Flood Risk Management Scheme in Birmingham protects over 1300 properties from a 1% annual exceedance probability flood event. A key component of the scheme is the Forge Mill flood storage area. Construction started in 2018 with the preliminary certificate signed off in spring 2022. This paper will discuss the project and share lessons learnt from the construction phase. The lessons learnt cover a variety of areas including programme considerations, use of erosion protection matting, trash screen management and use of three-dimensional models in construction.
