Abstract

The restoration of the endontically treated teeth has always represented a challenge, not only for the researcher but for the clinician. Some of the paradigms that guided the restorative procedures from the second half of the past century have given way to new realities, basically thanks to the impulse provided by the permanent investigation made in this area. It is then that metallic post and cores are being gradually replaced by safer, biocompatible and tissue-respectful alternatives, which also provide better esthetics and whose mechanical behaviour is similar to that of natural tissues. This article describes the posibility for substitution of cast-metal posts and cores by more favourable alternatives, a comparative evaluation between systems is made and emphasis is put on the use of adhesive bonded fiber posts.
