Abstract
Objective To explore the efficacy of fiber post and cast post and core in restoration of residual crown and root. Methods Two hundred and thirty front teeth with residual crown and root were divided into group with fiber post ( 165 teeth ) and group with cast post and core ( 165 teeth ). After the root canal was treated, the appearance of abutment tooth was restored using the post-core system, and then the entire crown was reconstructed. All the patients were followed up for 2 years. Results In the group with cast post and core, 4 cores shed from the root, 10 roots fractured, and gingival discolor occurred in 4 patients, with a success rate of 88.5%. While the group with fiber post had a success rate of 100%. Conclusions Fiber post can lower the incidence of foot fracture and gingival discolor. It is a real prosthesis material for residual crown and root. Key words: Fiber post; Cast post and core; Residual crown; Residual root
