Abstract

Introduction: Translocation of fluid into the peritoneal cavity contributes, in part, to the development of ACS (abdominal compartment syndrome). The purpose of this experiment was to determine the effect of exposure of peritoneal fluid from an animal model of ACS on the pro-inflammatory status of naïve PMNs (polymorphonuclear leukocytes) as measured by oxidative burst and adhesion molecule expression. Methods: ACS was induced in 6 female Yorkshire swine, utilizing a hemorrhagic shock/resuscitation and mesenteric venous pressure elevation model.
