Abstract
The acute crush injuries of peripheral nerves are seen frequently after various traumas. The resulting morbidity depends on combined effect of mechanical pressure and ischemic injury, timing and extent of injury. The sensorial and functional deficits range from paresthesias to complete sensory loss and from partial motor weakness to complete nerve paralysis. The rat sciatic nerve crush injury model is the most commonly used experimental model for understanding the crush injury mechanism, treatment modalities and recovery of the nerve. In this chapter, we briefly present a standardized crush injury model and methods of nerve recovery evaluation after peripheral nerve crush injury.
