Abstract
Background: Vaginal delivery is the most humane and safe way for women, so that this process is less painful and with less risk, more studies on the technique of perineal massage are being improved every day. Aims: to analyze the benefits of the technique in puerperal women and how the work of the pelvic physiotherapist can help in this process. Method: 21 articles were selected for this integrative review, searched on scientifically reliable sites. However, 12 articles were excluded because they did not present the methodological content for inclusion. Results: In total, 9 articles were selected, all showing in a different way how perineal massage can be beneficial to the health of the pregnant woman, episiotomy is an invasive method and how the physiotherapist can help in the integrity of the perineal musculature in the pre and post -childbirth. Conclusion: Perineal massage does not exclude the possibility of a laceration or pain during childbirth, but when properly instructed by a professional in the area, it can reduce the degree of laceration and prepares the musculature for the moment of childbirth, causing muscle tension to decrease.
