Abstract
A survey of the effectiveness (e) — number of transfer units (Ntu) — capacity rate ratio (ω) relationships for inverted order flow arrangements of three-pass crossflow heat exchangers is presented. The flow arrangements are those with stronger fluid unmixed throughout and the weaker stream mixed between passes and unmixed in each pass. The exact closed form formulas for the mean fluid temperatures in the interpass headers are given as well.
