Abstract

• Ovarian cancer is the leading cause of death among all gynecological malignancies.• Early detection of ovarian cancer is the key to successful treatment. In addition, the appropriate preoperative differentiation between ovarian cancer and benign pelvic masses could notably improve the survival rate and the prognosis of ovarian cancer.• The risk of malignancy index (RMI) is a simple scoring system to discriminate the ovarian tumors. RMI is the most utilized, widely available, and validated effective triaging system for women with suspected ovarian cancer. • Recently, the International Ovarian Tumor Analysis (IOTA-ADNEX) model is one of the most useful prognostic tools to discriminates well between benign and malignant tumors and offers fair to excellent discrimination between four types of ovarian malignancy. • In clinical practice, the easily use of IOTA-ADNEX has the potential to improve triage and management decisions and so reduce morbidity and mortality associated with adnexal pathology.
