Abstract

In this paper a new approximation for the probability of packet success for an asynchronous direct sequence code division multiple access (DS/CDMA) system is developed. Then this approximation is used to investigate the throughput-delay performance of a slotted asynchronous DS/CDMA protocol for personal access satellite system. It is found that when sufficient amount of error control coding is employed, the maximum throughput of the slotted asynchronous DS/CDMA protocol exceeds that of narrow-band slotted ALOHA. Furthermore, at the maximum throughput the slotted asynchronous DS/CDMA protocol achieves shorter delay than narrow-band slotted ALOHA.
