Abstract
This review paper is conferred on the performance of pervious concrete pavement incorporated with nano materials as partial replacement to the ordinary Portland cement. Lately, the application of nano materials has gained numerous attentions in order to enhance the capabilities of traditional pervious concrete pavement for better properties. Nano materials are usually referred to pulverized materials with particle size between 1nm to 100nm in at least one dimension. These nano materials act as nano fillers, nano reinforcements, catalysts, nucleation sites, reactive pozzolans and counter balances which contribute in the cement hydration activities, subsequently enhancing the properties of concrete materials. Nano clay, nano silica, nano titanium oxide and carbon nano tubes improves the strength, ductility and modulus properties of pervious concrete pavement in terms of compressive, tensile splitting and flexural strength along with durability properties such as freeze-thawing and denser the microstructure. As a consequence, it also reduces the permeability and porosity properties of pervious concrete pavement. However, nano materials have a potential to be applied into pervious concrete pavement with a proper design measure in order to make sure the permeability properties are achieved.
