Abstract
Multidimensional trellis-coded modulation (multi-D TCM) codes are applied to direct sequence spread spectrum multiple access (DS/SSMA) communication system in an urban multipath fading channel. Based on the characteristics of the channel under DS/SS and the models of the transmitter and receiver corresponding to multi-D TCM codes, an new way for analyzing the properties of multi-D TCM DS/SSMA systems over such channel is proposed. Simulation results show that the performance of the DS/SSMA system with TCM of a lower coding rate is better than that of system with traditional Ungerboeck's TCM over the multipath fading channel, and the performance of the DS/SSMA systems can be improved greatly by adopting multi-D TCM codes, compared with that of systems with one dimensional TCM codes.
