Abstract

In data broadcast systems, the notion of caching has been introduced in order to enhance system performance. For the effect of caching, unlike the traditional computing environments, it is necessary not only to improve hit ratio but also to reduce the cost of cache miss because mobile computing environments have inherent restrictions such as a low bandwidth. In this paper, we propose a caching strategy, PWT (Popularity and Waiting Time). Then, we evaluate performance of PWT, other variants of PWT (P and WT), and LRU by a simulation approach in terms of hit ratio, average response time, and worst response time. According to the result, although PWT relatively shows lower hit ratio, PWT generally shows better response time.
