Abstract
This paper presents a study of stand-alone variable speed small wind energy conversion system (WECS). A comparison between the permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG) based WECS in case of using or not using battery energy storage system is implemented. Maximum power is extracted by controlling the generator side converter. Load side converter is controlled to regulate the load voltage and the load frequency under using BESS by an effective control technique based on the pulse width modulation (PWM). The simulation of the full system is implemented on PSIM software. Simulation results for the proposed system are compatible with theoretical results.
