Abstract

A fuzzy-decision Viterbi decoder is proposed for a dedicated short-range communications (DSRC) system to combat the effect of a time-varying fading channel. The performance of the DSRC system using the proposed fuzzy-decision Viterbi decoder is compared with both the hard-decision and soft-decision Viterbi decoder. The simulation results show that the gain in performance of the proposed fuzzy-decision Viterbi decoder with respect to the hard-decision and soft-decision Viterbi decoder is significantly increased.
