Abstract

Present study discusses the processing and experimental investigation of hybridized nano-composites. The epoxy polymer reinforced by Al 2 O 3 Polymer nanocomposites hybridized by Al 2 O 3 of rod and spherical shape were prepared by in-situ polymerization technique. Spherical particle of 20–50 nm diameter and rod particles having 15–30 nm diameter & 50 nm length were used as nanofiller. The weight percent of nanofiller of 0.5 wt%, 1 wt% & 1.5 wt% were used for reinforcement of epoxy matrix. The tensile strength, elastic modulus was observed at different wt % nanofilled epoxy resin and the results were compared with the performance of neat epoxy samples. The reinforcement of nanofillers significantly affects the tensile strength and moderately affects the elastic modulus of polymer resin. The results reported that the tensile strength was improved from 58.7 MPa to 64.1 MPa. The microstructure of fractures specimen were observed by scanning electron microscope (SEM) to verify the strengthening mechanism.
