Abstract

Fading signature multiple access (FSMA) is known more recently as a promising radio access technology that enables higher spectral efficiency over correlated fading channels. It utilizes the difference in users’ fading signatures to recover the individual user’s data in a joint signal detection manner. In this paper, bit error rate (BER) performance of FSMA utilizing efficient correlation mitigation signaling methods is investigated. Based on maximizing the minimumEuclidean distance of superimposed received signals, unequal power signal constellation (UPSC) and rotated signal constellation (RSC) methods are considered for different modulation schemes and compared with the conventional technique using identical signal constellation (ISC). Simulation results show that irrespective of correlation values, employing constellation rearrangement of users’ signals enable minimum BER as a result of resolving possible ambiguities in signal detection. The effectiveness of these methods facilitates feasible utilizations of FSMA in future communications.
