Abstract
A performance evaluation of Delta connected, 9-phase, cage rotor induction machine for electric propulsion application is presented. The analysis was implemented in natural variable reference frame. Four different connections of the machine's stator windings to form ‘Delta’ configurations in addition to the traditional Star connection were compared using natural reference frame. Simulation and experimental results for the Star/Delta connections are presented. Results show that Delta IV connection has the highest electromagnetic torque capability. The different electromagnetic torques for each of the five stator winding configurations make the machine an ideal candidate for electric vehicle propulsion application.
