Abstract

Abstract In this paper the concrete was made by using 20 wt% fly ash (FA) blended Portland cement (OPC) incorporating 5 wt% silica fume (SF) and 0.3 wt% Silicone Hydrophobic Powder-50 (SHP-50). Number of experiments was performed to study the properties of the concrete. Slump test showed that all the mixes were in workable condition upto 2h. SHP - 50 and FA retarded whereas SF accelerated the hydration. For MIX 4 the compressive strength was the highest; chloride penetration and air content were lowest. FTIR spectroscopic, SEM and X- Ray diffraction studies were made to study the hydration. Results showed that chloride diffusion rate reduced significantly and the compressive strength increased considerably. The overall results have been discussed.
