Abstract

A design of OES (Optical Ethernet Switching) based on SDN (Software Defined Networking) and SOA (Semiconductor Optical Amplifier) technology is proposed in [1]. This paper will further propose a design of optical output buffer and simulate performance evaluation of [1]. For preserving packet sequence and routing sequence, the round-robin algorithm is adopted at the output buffer. The optical output buffers are implemented in three methods to handle Ethernet packets with variable bit rates. And results of the simulations are illustrated in this paper, which are performed under a traffic model complied with traffic captured from real Internet network.
