Abstract

We demonstrate system performance improvement by adaptive eye mapping of a 10-Gb/s silicon complementary metal-oxide-semiconductor 16-bit transceiver integrated circuit (IC). Compared with the conventional receiver with fixed threshold detection, transmission distance has been doubled from 1000 to over 2000 km by adaptively optimizing both the threshold and phase information without data interruption. Monitoring Q and bit-error rate can also be achieved using the same IC.
