Abstract

Nowadays multilevel inverters are very popular for medium voltage high power applications where the system efficiency depends upon the switching algorithms. There are two types of multilevel inverters, symmetric and asymmetric multilevel inverters. Symmetric multilevel inverters cause poor system efficiency because they require more number of switches than asymmetric multilevel inverters. In this paper performance of different switching techniques for asymmetric multilevel inverters is evaluated in terms of total harmonic distortion and inverter loss.
