Abstract

This paper proposes a scheme to effectively transfer the power between solar Photo Voltaic (PV) array and three phase utility grid while operating Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) coupled to water pumping system. Proposed smart control scheme allows the bidirectional power flow at the AC bus terminals of the PMSM. Moreover, the control theory enables user to operate the permanent magnet syn-chronous motor through grid and eliminates the need of voltage source converter. PMSM coupled with pumping system employs field oriented control(FOC) technique for driving purpose. Incremental conductance (INC) algorithm is employed to withdraw maximum power from solar PV array. The integrated system which constitutes PMSM coupled to water pump, utility grid and solar PV array. This system is simulated on MATLAB/Simulink platform to ensure the bidirectional flow of power between solar PV array along with MPP tracking and utility grid.
